Episode list for early modern France and Netherlands

Posted on ..

As usual I’ll be posting a list of what to expect in the next upcoming series, in this case on 17-18th century French and Dutch philosophy (with an interlude on Italy and Spain). I have a draft of this and have sent it to some expert friends for feedback but you can expect to see it here in the next few weeks. This series will launch in February!

Italian Philosophers content vs Iberian content 17th/18th cen

Long ago I sent you a huge list of Italian philosophers during these two centuries (17th-18th) and mentioned that they contributed significantly more to Philosophy than the Iberian thinkers during this period, so I'm interested to know how many episodes you plan on dedicating to the Italian thinkers.

How do you plan on sandwiching their episodes when France/Low Countries were at their intellectual peak during this time period aswell?

Yes that list of Italian philosophers was really useful, I integrated a lot of them into my plan for that mini-series. My current idea is to have about 10 episodes on the Enlightenment in Spain, Portugal, and Italy, which would come basically when I am doing the transition from 17th century to 18th century in the middle of the France/Netherlands series. This makes sense because of the influence of French thought, especially Cartesianism. As it happens I was only just reading about the “Naples Enlightenment” which involved some of the thinkers you listed; I also want to cover some less obvious things like Velasquez and the reactions to the Lisbon earthquake.
