Martin Lenz on philosophical genres

In a recent post about Averroes I pointed out that we nowadays tend to denigrate the philosophical contributions of commentators, but that this is a change from earlier periods in the history of philosophy. This prompted an interesting reflection on genres of philosophy from Martin Lenz,  which in turn prompted further reflections on originality in philosophy from Eric Schliesser.
